Student Chromebook checkout available

Julie Jantz, librarian at the Odessa Public Library, reports that she has a collection of Chromebooks ready for checkout. The Odessa Parent Teacher Organization has provided Chromebooks for students to check out and use at home for their homework assignments.

Not every home has a computer available that is dedicated for student use. As long as there is an internet connection at home that the Chromebooks can hook up to, all the student needs is a g-mail address to receive and send in homework assignments.

LocalTel has provided the library with 24/7 access to WiFi, which can be accessed inside the library or just outside the building.

These services have been provided because Covid-19 has interrupted our daily lives, and student access to the internet needs to be available in order to successfully receive and interact with their homework assignments.

“We are pleased to be an access point for students’ need to adapt to the challenges they face in continuing their educational experience with as few interruptions as possible,” Jantz says. “All that is needed to checkout a Chromebook is a current library card.”
