Sprague Chamber raffle a success

SPRAGUE – The annual Sprague Days events were cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, but community members and visitors carried on with events throughout the day, including a contest hosted by Spokane Disk Dogs in town. A Cruise the Lake Car and Bike Show at Four Seasons Resort featured music by Spokane DJ Scott Baker, a jumpy house for kids and several vendors.

The Sprague Chamber of Commerce held their annual raffle in the late afternoon, which brought in $2,054.

“It was a great success,” said Chamber President Joy Wilken. “Our goal was $1500, after we made $1200 last year.”

Wilken said area businesses — including small, home-based businesses, donated generously enough that 59 prizes were given out.

“A few things happened that were really amazing,” said Loi Lutes, who helped organize the raffle. “We had several people buying tickets, but putting other people’s names on the tickets without telling them. So then when the people won, they were really surprised and very appreciative.”

Lutes said two people who won prizes said they were passing them on to the local postmistress, who lost her house in the Malden fire.

“I’m appreciative of so many people’s help with this project. The best thank-you they can give me, is to shop at the businesses that supported us and let them know their donation to our raffle made a difference,” Lutes said.
