100 years ago

Feb. 4, 1921

The Odessa High School debate team will meet the strong team from Oroville High at the English Congregational Church in the third debate of the state series in what promises to be one of the hardest contested school debates ever held in Odessa. Neither school has lost a debate this season, and the winner of this debate is considered to be the probable runner-up for the final championship contest for the district of northeastern Washington, which will be held next month. The team that will represent the local school consists of Mary Glass, Florence Schoonover and Christoph Horn.

Deputy collector coming. H.P. Meyer, deputy collector of the internal revenue office at Spokane has requested the Record to announce that he will be at Odessa on Wednesday, Feb. 16, to assist local people in making out their income tax statements.

75 years ago

Jan. 28, 1946

Chivaris were in order during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Zeiler and Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Roloff were hosts to a group at Lamona, where dancing was enjoyed and refreshments were served.

J.C. Schorzman notified the Record that there was an error in the news last week, when it was reported that he had sold his recently acquired residence property, the William Quast home. The buyer named had looked at the house, but no deal had been arranged.

50 years ago

Feb. 4, 1971.

Mr and Mrs. Ralph Williams of Davenport announced the engagement of their daughter Karen to Jon Heimbigner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonah Heimbigner of Odessa. Miss Williams graduated from Reardan High School and Eastern Washington State College. She is currently in her second year of teaching at Odessa High School. Her fiancé graduated from Odessa High and Eastern and is currently employed by the National Bank of Commerce in Clarkston.

The Tiger boys basketball team set a scoring record against Almira, which went down to defeat by a score of 105 to 52. In that same game, a jump ball at the free-throw line was tipped right into the Tiger basket by Clark Kagele.

Tiger wrestlers coached by Jack Hester were at five wins and five losses with two meets left on their schedule.

25 years ago

Feb. 1, 1996

A fledgling Odessa firm holding patents on technology which boosts performance of engines for ultralight aircraft and other applications has become only the fourth company to enter into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the U.S. Navy’s Keyport research facility near Bremerton. The technology was invented by Donald E. Stinebaugh of Post Falls, Idaho, whose son Leonard now owns royalty interest in his late father’s patents. Leonard Stinebaugh is a partner is a firm, 4-Cycle, Inc., with John Strohmaier of Odessa and James Canode of Wilbur.
