Ruth Rose (Morrison) Van Buren

1945 - 2021

Ruth Rose (Morrison) Van Buren passed away peacefully May 1, 2021, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur D' Alene, ID. We bid goodbye to our loving mother. She was born in Tomahawk, Wisconsin on April 9, 1945 to Gladys G Petta Morrison and James Hugh Morrison.

Ruth was one of three children; proceeded in death by her brother Gary and survived by her brother Ron. Ruth served in the Special Services Department of the Navy from 1965 to 1966 in San Diego, Calif. before moving to Lewiston Idaho where she attended Lewis and Clark State College and graduated with an Office Occupation Diploma.

On a blind date in 1972 at the Lincoln County Fair, Ruth met Grant Van Buren and 10 months later they were happily married and enjoyed their lives together for 48 years in Davenport. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Grant and is survived by her sons; Brian Van Buren in Seattle and Chris Van Buren in Davenport and a multitude of friends, nieces and nephews.

Ruth had a diverse working career, working in the Banking, Agricultural, Dental and Automotive industries specializing in customer service, bookkeeping and office management. In her retirement years, she greatly enjoyed her trips with long-time friends to Portugal to revisit her fondest high school memories and favorite places, as well as short trips around the Northwest to visit family and friends. Ruth also had a love for the outdoors; she enjoyed fishing on Lake Roosevelt, and Twin Lakes, working in the yard maintaining her floral arrangements and shrubs and tending to the home gardens. Ruth also enjoyed cooking and was famous for her appetizers, especially her one-of-a-kind family favorite, deviled eggs. Her favorite past times were spending a few hours each week at Northern Quest and relaxing at home bonding with her husband Grant and their Lhasa Apsos Kuma and Goji. Ruth was a loving, caring and compassionate mother, wife and sister. She was loved and cherished by friends and family near and far and she left us with many fond memories. She will be missed and forever remembered.

Memorial services are scheduled for both Grant and Ruth Van Buren at Davenports' Mountain View Cemetery on Sat. June 26, 2021 at 11 am with luncheon to follow at the Davenport Zion Lutheran Church.
