Harrington celebrates six graduates

HARRINGTON – Thursday afternoon, June 3, a few local citizens caught a preview of the graduation parade when a beautiful Belgian team in full harness pulled a four-seat surrey along the parade route, allowing the horses the opportunity to adapt to the sights and sounds in town and learning how they would manage crossing the railroad tracks. Driving the surrey was Riley Roller with his grandfather, Skip Simpson, behind him with instructions, and the two passengers were Barbara Armstrong and the former Miss Harrington, Alexys Crawford. Skip Simpson purchased the two horses last year in Waverly, Iowa and bought the surrey south of Spokane.

Friday afternoon, with the parade scheduled for 5 p.m., cars and pedestrians alike began arriving at 4:30, and a sizeable crowd had amassed by the time the surrey with the full senior class in graduation gowns came down Third Street: Nagib Ayache, Ashley Breault, Izabelle Burke (Kramer), Alexys Crawford, Aidyn Lee and Riley Roller. Following the parade, the class and crowd made their way to the school for the commencement ceremony. Afterword, a group reception was held at Memorial Hall.
