Schumacher selected as interim county auditor

DAVENPORT – Chandra Schumacher, CPA, was selected by the Lincoln County Commissioners to replace former county auditor Shelly Johnston as interim auditor through Johnston’s elected cycle. Schumacher will begin Sept. 1 and will be sworn in around that time.

Schumacher, who comes from a third-generation farming family and lives in Harrington, got a degree in accounting from Eastern Washington University. She spent time accounting for several companies in the Seattle area before moving to Odessa Union for five years.

She then got a job at EWU as Director of Advancement and worked her way up to chief budget officer in the EWU Foundation department in her 10 years back there while living in Cheney.

Schumacher decided the hour-long commute from Harrington to Cheney was a bit long and got a job accounting for Halme Builders here, where she will work until moving to the county auditor job full-time.

The commissioners interviewed Schumacher publicly for around 15 minutes at their July 19 meeting and appointed her interim auditor on the spot. She accepted the position later this week.

Because the auditor is an elected position, Schumacher will have to file and run for election in 2022, when Johnston’s term would’ve expired. She indicated to the commissioners she would file to run next year if selected as interim auditor.
