Required step for county offices

DAVENPORT — The 2024 Primary Election may be four months away, but the window is open now for candidates interested in running for open county offices to take the required step of registering their campaigns with the Public Disclosure Commission.

The Commission tracks candidate spending and donations received for political campaigns. Candidates are not required to list each donation if they raise and spend less than $5,000 on the campaign trail.

Four county and judicial offices are open for election in 2024:

• Superior Court Judge.

• Lincoln County Commissioner District No. 1.

• Lincoln County Commissioner District No. 2.

• Public Utility District Commissioner No. 2.

Additionally, all Precinct Committee Officers position are up for election this year.

Thus far, two candidates have filed with the Public Disclosure Commission. Current prosecuting attorney Adam Walser filed to run for Superior Court Judge, as incumbent Jeffrey S. Barkdull is not expected to seek re-election.

And incumbent Jo Gilchrist filed a campaign for Commissioner District No. 2.

Candidates for these offices will be required to file for candidacy with the Auditor’s Office during this year’s filing week May 6-10.
