Highway 2 delays expected

DAVENPORT—Drivers traveling between here and Reardan will have to detour or deal with construction delays starting next week. Crews will be performing construction on an 11.5 mile stretch between the end of the bridge just east of Highway 25 outside the city and down Highway 2 to the west end of Reardan.

The work will be done in roughly four-mile increments and begins Tuesday, May 3, according to project manager Randy Silvrants of Inland Asphalt Co., which is performing the work.

However, Construction in the city will begin Monday, May 2, as crews will pave and mill down Morgan Street from Gunning Road to just past Highway 25. Lane closures may cause limited access to businesses and residences for about two hours, a construction notice read.

Milling and paving will continue from milepost 263.5 outside Reardan to milepost 250.5 outside Davenport from May 3-31. The work will be done in increments with detours available.

Silvrants said the first week will be on the first two miles outside Reardan, so drivers can detour around using Alexander Road to Highway 231 and back to Highway 2. Starting May 7 as work continues west, Sunset Highway will be accessible as an alternate route, he added.

Each stretch of Highway 2 will take roughly a week to pave and mill, Silvrants said.

Highway 2 will remain open, but work will lead to delays of 15 minutes or more on the main road between Davenport and Reardan with a pilot car leading traffic.

Work will continue until June 24. Striping, rumble stripping and guidepost replacing is scheduled for May 30-June 24.

UPDATE: Work on this project has been moved to a May 5 start date, Silvrants said in a phone call Friday. He added he expects work to be completed on the same timeline of June 24.
