Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!

Filing week is next week

DAVENPORT—The race to find Sheriff Wade Magers’ elected successor is expected to be the most talked-about local race in quite some time. County voters will officially learn who is running during candidate filing week, which begins Monday, May 16 and runs through Friday, May 20.

Most county-level positions are on the ballot, including the aforementioned sheriff. Other open positions include assessor, auditor, clerk, commissioner No. 3, prosecutor, treasurer, District Court judge, PUD commissioner No. 2, PUD commissioner No. 3 and all precinct committee officers.

Filing week will make candidates’ foray into elections official. Many candidates have already indicated their intention to run for office by registering their campaigns with the state Public Disclosure Commission.

Incumbents that have registered and are expected to run include assessor J. Scott Liebing, auditor Chandra Schumacher, commissioner Rob Coffman, prosecutor Adam Walser and District Court judge Dan B. Johnson.

Clerk Peggy Semprimoznik and treasurer Jody Howard are not expected to run again. Traci Gants registered a campaign for clerk, while treasurer is expected to be a contested race between Emily Hansen, Brad Sweet and anyone else who files next week.

Five candidates for sheriff have registered campaigns, including Brian Telford, Andy Manke, Gabe Gants, Jeff Barden and Adam Johnson.

All partisan offices will be seen on the ballot for the primary election in August. If a race has more than two candidates, the primary election will narrow down the race to a final two for the general election.

Editor's note: Our print copy incorrectly stated the parameters for getting onto the ballot for the August primary. All partisan offices will be on the ballot this August.

Filing week ends Friday, May 20 at 4 p.m.

Candidates that file before 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 will be covered in next week’s issue of The Record-Times. Those who file after that point will appear in the following issue.

Our website will be consistently updated with filing candidates.
