WALLA WALLA – The Odessa Tigers boys baseball season came to an end Saturday, May 21, with a 10-1 loss to the DeSales Fighting Irish.
The No. 8-ranked Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but were unable to score after that.
DeSales, the No. 1-seed, tied the game in the second and kept adding runs over the next three innings.
Hayden Miller hit two singles, one of which resulted in the Tigers’ only run.
Collin Martin also hit a single.
Starting pitcher Collin Martin went three-and-a-third innings before being relieved by Nathan Carstensen in the bottom of the fourth.
Both Odessa pitchers struggled to find the plate, issuing several walks and hitting several batters. Martin allowed eight runs on three hits, walked six and struck out four. Carstensen allowed two runs on two hits, walked two and struck out one.
Both Martin and Carstensen were named to the all-league team.
DeSales advanced to the state 1B baseball semifinal game against No. 4 Crosspoint, which won 10-7.
Crosspoint went on to win the state 1B title Saturday, May 21, topping Naselle, 4-3.
Naselle, the No. 3-ranked team, eliminated No.2-ranked Almira-Coulee/Hartline, 15-10, on May 21.
