Sports coaching concerns arise for next school year

ODESSA- Larry Weber, the now-former head high school baseball coach and math teacher here, discussed ideas and concerns with the athletic program at the May 25 school board meeting.

Concern arose due to open coaching positions for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year.

Weber created one of those open positions, as his resignation as high school head baseball coach was announced by Athletic Director Bruce Todd.

Postings for head high school baseball coach and high assistant volleyball coach will be posted at a later date.

Superintendent Dan Read shared the current student count of 215.6.

Read will be assisting with the 2022-2023 budget preparations, end of year grants, 2022-2023 grant applications and transitional time with incoming superintendent John Bruce. His last day will be June 24.

Principle Nelson reported on the end of the year activities.

The first and second grade classes visited Freihe farms.

Third grade went on a walking field trip.

Fourth grade visited VW Museum of Art and Culture in Spokane.

Grandparents’ day was held for K-5 grades.

The Washington State Potato Commission brought a fry van to school and provided fries to the entire school.

The band marched in the Lilac Parade.

Eighth-graders will have a science expo on June 8.

Board members expressed appreciation for the elementary music concert directed by Sam Harder.

Todd reported the 2022-2023 high school football, volleyball and basketball schedules are complete along with junior high football and volleyball schedules.

Justin Parr reported he is making a list of summer projects and working together with Control Solutions Northwest on a possible air quality improvement project.

The next school board meeting will be held on June 22.
