Hopkins pleads guilty to computer trespassing

Sentencing to occur next week on amended charges

DAVENPORT—Michelle L. Hopkins pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree computer trespassing and will be sentenced next week after her original charges of 25 counts of possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct in the first and second degree were amended by the Lincoln County Prosecutor’s Office.

Hopkins, 49, entered the guilty plea in a court appearance Tuesday, June 28.

The prosecutor’s office motioned for an amendment pursuant to a plea agreement Tuesday, according to court records.

The four charges now accuse Hopkins of “intentionally gaining access to a computer system or electronic database of another and … gained the access with the intent to commit another crime, and/or the violation involved a computer or database maintained by a governmental agency,” records state.

Hopkins was originally arrested and charged in late December 2020.

The amended charges and guilty plea negated the need for a trial, which was scheduled to begin Wednesday, June 29.

Each charge carries a standard confinement range of four to 12 months and a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine, according to records.

Hopkins will be sentenced by presiding judge Dan B. Johnson Tuesday, July 5 at 10:30 a.m.
