John Bruce welcomed by school district

ODESSA- Principal Jamie Nelson welcomed new Superintendent John Bruce in his first official School Board Meeting on Wednesday, July 27.

Nelson thanked Juli Weishaar and Staci Classen for their communication and attention to detail as the school transitioned to a new superintendent.

Bruce said he plans to communicate through emails, phone calls and in person visits.

During his first official month, Bruce has been busy with negotiations, meeting faculty and attending a new superintendent office.

The board and Bruce held a discussion on filling the vacant Athletic Director position.

Bruce will be filling the position until a new hire is available.

Paul and Kerry Scheller shared which trees they had helped trim while also announcing they will no longer be able to continue with the project.

The board thanked the Schellers for their hard work trimming the trees.

Nelson said she is looking forward to working with staff this school year.

Meeting schedules, themes and professional development are in progress for the new year.

Facilities manager Justin Parr said the grandstand electrical repairs will start Aug. 5.

Parr reported that new metal for the football field bathroom had been ordered.

Repairs to the playground Big Toy were discussed.

Parr said Control Solutions NW is waiting for product to arrive to continue with HVAC repairs.

The ESD technology team has been making updates throughout the school.

Parr also mentioned purchasing a van through FFA grant funds.

Nelson said that HaLee Walter will be attending a 2-week APT class in Texas.

The class will allow the school to provide a more diverse Ag course schedule for the students.
