Davenport to host annual volleyball tournament

DAVENPORT—It’ll be a quick turnaround from Friday night’s rivalry football game to an all-day volleyball tournament for district athletic staff. The Gorillas will host their annual tournament beginning at 9 a.m. and running until 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3.

10 schools were signed up to participate by press time: Davenport, Wilbur-Creston, Mary Walker, Republic, Medical Lake, Cusick, Chewelah, Odessa, Lake Roosevelt and Northport.

Each varsity and junior varsity team will play four hour-long matches throughout the day. Varsity teams will play in the high school gym and grade school gym, while junior varsity teams will play on the two middle school courts, athletic director Tim Rasmussen said.

Davenport is scheduled to play Wilbur-Creston at 9 a.m., Medical Lake at 11 a.m., Mary Walker at 2 p.m. and Republic at 5 p.m.

Schedules are the same for varsity and junior varsity squads.

Odessa has matches scheduled at 10 a.m. against Lake Roosevelt, Chewelah at noon, Cusick at 2 p.m. and Northport at 4 p.m.

Wilbur-Creston is scheduled to face Mary Walker at noon, Republic at 3 p.m. and Medical Lake at 6 p.m.

The tournament will be the first match action seen by Lincoln County schools this season. Davenport is a young squad looking to take the next step in a rebuild, while Odessa is looking to make another 1B state playoffs run that will culminate at the Yakima SunDome in November.
