Gorillas, Tigers earn splits at tournament

DAVENPORT-A nine-school volleyball jamboree tournament hosted here Saturday, Sept. 3 featured a strong dose of Lincoln County schools. The Gorillas, Odessa Tigers and Wilbur-Creston Wildcats joined Mary Walker (Springdale), Lake Roosevelt, Chewelah, Republic, Medical Lake and Northport at the festivities split between the high school and elementary school.

Davenport won two and lost two of the best-of-three, hour-long matches it played. The Gorillas got a fight from Wilbur-Creston but held off the Wildcats in straight sets. Davenport then got a win over a 1A school with a three-set victory over Medical Lake.

The Gorillas lost to Mary Walker in three sets and Republic in two sets to conclude its day.

Odessa got a win against Lake Roosevelt in its first match.

The Tigers then lost to Chewelah in three sets before rebounding for a sweep of Northport.

Odessa will take aim at a 2B opponent next, heading to Ritzville for a matchup with the Broncos Thursday, Sept. 8. Davenport, meanwhile, doesn't play again until a Sept. 20 showdown with Northwest Christian (Colbert).
