Reardan defeats Colfax in mud bowl

REARDAN-The Screaming Eagles slogged through the mud en route to a 6-0 win over the Colfax Bulldogs in both teams' last football game on Friday, Nov. 4.

The field was splotches of green grass and snow at kickoff.. By the end of the first quarter, it was a quagmire; the mud obscured the players' numbers.

Much of the game was back and forth in the middle of the field. Neither team experienced success through the air, so relied mostly on runs up the middle.

Reardan's Jaquin Stroble made the play of the game when he took Rysen Soliday's handoff and romped 72 yards through thick gumbo before being knocked out-of-bounds at the three-yard line at the end of the first quarter. Aiden Chilson plunged over the goal line from one yard out, scoring the game's only points.

In the second half, neither team generated much offense, though Colfax sustained several drives into Screaming Eagle territory. Both teams' offenses were stymied by the other team's defense, poor footing and fumbles.

"Tonight was Reardan football," coach Matt Clouse said. "A six-zero win in the mud is as good as it gets. It was an offensive struggle for both teams. Fortunately, we made that one big play when we needed it."

"I was proud of our boys tonight," Colfax coach Mike Morgan said. "These were not ideal conditions to play in, but both teams played hard."

Morgan complimented Reardan on its win.

"Reardan made the one play they needed, and their defense played great," he said.

"I'm disappointed with only two wins, but our guys never gave up," Morgan said. "They played hard to the very end. I have great kids and love every single one of them."

Reardan closed out the season at 2-5 in NE2B play and 3-5 overall with the win. Colfax also finished league play at 2-5 and 2-8 overall.

Gorillas get win over Tonasket

It was an up-and-down season filled with some coaching drama for the Davenport football team. Though the goal of a state playoff berth wasn't reached, the season did end with a positive result in a District 6 crossover match in Okanogan County.

The Gorillas traveled to Tonasket and beat the Tigers 25-9 Thursday, Nov. 3.

Davenport finished the season 3-4 in league and 5-4 overall. The Gorillas graduate a bevy of seniors and will look to retool the roster in hopes of a bounceback season in 2023.
