Evaluating county precinct data

DAVENPORT—The most recent Lincoln County ballot tabulation conducted Wednesday, Nov. 16 indicated that there was a 75.13% voter turnout in this year’s general election with 16 ballots left to tally Monday, Nov. 28 before the election is officially certified.

With that count came the release of precinct data, which indicates preferred candidates for each voting precinct in Lincoln County.

The most lopsided contested county race was that of Treasurer, where Emily Lybbert Hansen received 3,398 votes to Brad Sweet’s 1,584. Voters preferred Hansen in every precinct except the small areas of Irby and Layton.

Hansen handily carried Davenport 593-223, Odessa 268-103, Reardan 162-71, Harrington 139-64, Sprague 131-46 and Edwall 56-17.

Though the results were never in doubt, the closest county race was that for Commissioner, where Rob Coffman defeated Jason Debord 3,597 to 1,895.

Most precincts preferred Coffman, but Debord did have advantages in Creston town limits, rural Creston and Peach.

Coffman won Davenport 486-277, Odessa 251-109, Reardan 157-72, Sprague 125-48 and Edwall 48-17.

Gabe Gants was victorious in the Sheriff’s race with 3,869 to 1,913 for Brian Telford. Gants won nearly every precinct, but Telford outvoted the new Sheriff in Wheatland, West Larene and Creston town limits.

The two candidates tied 10-10 in tiny Bluestem.

Gants had advantages in Davenport 494-335, Odessa 258-129, Reardan 183-64, Harrington 135-68, Sprague 107-78 and Edwall 53-21.

Sprague submitted seven write-in votes for the Sheriff race, the most of any municipality for any contested county race.

The ultimately unsuccessful Reardan-Edwall School District capital levy was generally less popular the farther away a precinct was from school grounds.

The levy passed in town limits 154-110, in Gravelle 31-25, north rural Reardan 34-32, south rural Reardan 40-26 and 69-67 in Spring Creek.

However, voters sided against the levy in Canby 36-12, Edwall 37-35, Long Lake 59-51 and Waukon 32-21.

All three voting precincts in Spokane County with the levy on their ballots were decidedly against the levy.

Precinct 6023, which includes the district boundaries from the county line to about Wood Road, voted no 330-208. Precinct 6024, which covers a rough square between Coulee Hite Road, Valley Road and Charles Road, said no 225-94. Precinct 6025, which includes an area roughly between Coulee Hite Road, Garfield Road, Valley Road and Bowie Road, was against the levy 381-209.
