Winter storm hits county

Daily total records shattered

DAVENPORT—Schools closed and cars slid across highways in a record-setting snowstorm in Lincoln County Wednesday, Nov. 30. As of press time, anywhere from 6 to 13 inches of snow had fallen around the county.

Reardan was the hardest hit with 13 inches as of Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. By the same time, Davenport had 11.9 inches of snow.

The near-foot received in Davenport shattered a daily record for Nov. 30. The previous marks were 4.2 inches in Davenport in 2005

Harrington, Odessa and Wilbur also set daily snowfall records for Nov. 30 Wednesday, according to NWS data. Odessa had five inches, while 6.8 inches were measured in Harrington and 9.3 inches were measured in Wilbur.

The previous daily record for Harrington was four inches in 1984, while Wilbur’s record had been five inches in 1978.

Edwall had 9.65 inches of snow by press time, while Sprague had 6.15 inches. 10.15 inches had been measured in Creston Wednesday afternoon.

The county Public Works Department was hard at work fighting the snow with 17 trucks deployed. Crews were out as early as 4 a.m. trying to clear constantly drifting snow.

The most difficult roads to traverse and treat were in the Wilbur area, according to Dave Sanford of the Public Works Department.

“There’s a lot of stuck vehicles in our way,” Sanford said Wednesday.

The snow was expected to continue in some areas into early Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
