Election filing week approaching

Dozens of positions to be on ballot

DAVENPORT — Candidates hoping to run for open city and town council seats, school board seats and more will have their opportunity to file for the 2023 election beginning Monday, May 15 through Friday, May 19.

Prospective candidates will be voted on in the general election in November and primary election in August. If there are more than two candidates for a seat, the primary election will narrow the pool down to the final two in the running.

Candidates can file online or print out Declaration of Candidacy forms on Lincoln County’s website. Mail-in declarations must be in the county Auditor’s Office by 4 p.m. Friday, May 19.

The only county seat coming open is Commissioner District No. 1, presently held by Jo Gilchrist. Gilchrist indicated in her interview process to fill the seat previously held by Mark Stedman that she planned to run for election this fall.

Five Davenport city council seats are up for election, including four-year terms held by Chris Ruiz and Heath Becker, a two-year unexpired term held by Robert Jenkins, a short and four-year term held by Jonathan Chapman and a two-year term held by Patrick Katz.

The mayor seat, held by Brad Sweet, is also open for a four-year term.

Three Harrington city council seats, including four-year terms held by Stephen Hardy and Levi Schenk and a short and four-year term held by Kris Moritz, are up for election. The two-year unexpired seat of treasurer, held by Saige Wilson, and four-year term of mayor, held by Jess Silhan, are also open.

Sprague city council has three seats up for election, including four-year terms held by Rocky Henson and Trace De Garmo and a short and four-year term held by Patty Kanan.

Odessa town council has four-year seats held by Victoria Iverson and Marlene Kramer, a short and four-year term held by Josh Clark and a four-year mayor term held by Bill Crossley open for election.

Reardan town council has three four-year seats up for election. The seats are presently held by Dan Graham, Clay Soliday and Shad Vincent.

Three four-year terms for the Sprague school board are up for election, including those held by Judith Ringwood, Clayton Wilken and Tracey Korthuis.

The Reardan-Edwall school board has three four-year seats up for election, with the present directors being Tessa Wicks, Jeff Anderson and Ryan Clouse.

Three four-year terms for the Odessa school board are up for election, including those held by Ed Deife, Carmen Weishaar and Christine Crossley.

Two four-year terms for the Harrington school board, presently held by Darren Mattozzi and Mark Kramer, are up for election. Jon Evans’ two-year term is also up for election.

Three four-year terms for the Davenport school board, currently held by Deanna Fitzpatrick, Tami Odenrider and Garrett Husky, are up for election, as is Jaymie Bennett’s two-year unexpired term.

Several fire protection district commissioner seats are also open, all with six-year terms. Seats in our coverage area include:

• Fire District No. 1 (Sprague area), held by Terry Harding

• Fire District No. 3 (Odessa area), held by William Bell

• Fire District No. 4 (Reardan area), currently vacant

• Fire District No. 5 (Davenport area), held by Aaron Jacobsen

• Fire District No. 6 (Harrington area), held by Randal Oestreich

Public hospital districts have two seats up for election each. In District No. 1 (Odessa area), Jeff Schibel and H.P. Carstensen’s six-year terms are opening, while in District No. 3 (Davenport area), Paul Weber and Taunya Van Pevenage’s six-year terms are opening.

Open cemetery district seats include:

• Cemetery District No. 1 (Reardan area), six years, held by Jim Baye

• Cemetery District No. 2 (Long Lake area), short and six years, currently vacant

• Cemetery District No. 3 (Mondovi area), six years held by Robert Boleneus and a four-year unexpired seat currently vacant

• Cemetery District No. 6 (Edwall area), six years, held by Bruce Cousins

• Cemetery District No. 7 (Sprague area), six years, held by Larae Rodriguez

Open park and recreation district seats in our coverage area include:

• Park and Recreation District No. 1 (Edwall area), short and four years held by Bill Stromberger, four years held by Justin Wollweber and four years held by Michael Bishop

• Park and Recreation District No. 3 (Davenport area), two years unexpired held by Andrew Schreck, four years held by Dick Wandling, short and four years held by Ericka Johnson, two years unexpired held by Lindsey McCluskey and four years held by Alton Leisle.

Three seats are up for election in the Metropolitan Park District No. 1 (Odessa area). They include Abigail Lindberg’s short and six-year term, Blayne Albertson’s six-year term and Michelle Dechand’s four-year unexpired term.
