Margaret Pearl (Sampson) Nevin

Margaret Pearl (Sampson) Nevin passed away May 6, 2023 in Spokane, Wash. Margaret was born on June 20, 1930 in Fruitland, Wash. to Kenneth and Grace Sampson. Margaret spent her first 18 years in Fruitland, Wash., attending a two-room school for 8 eight years. She later went to Columbia High School in Hunters, Wash. Her mother also attended and graduated from there and her father laid all of the bricks in the school building. Margaret married Norman (Rod) Nevin on Aug. 21, 1948 in Coeur d'Alene, ID. They were married for 66 years and had seven children before Rod passed away in July 2014.

Margaret is survived by her seven children Ray (Shirly) Nevin, Kathy Seaberg, Linda (Joe) Graves, Chris (Dick) Denson), Cindy (Jon) Taylor, Jeff (Elaine) Nevin, and daughter-in-law Laura Nevin, along with 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She also has one brother Wayne H. (Marlene) Sampson and a sister Shirley J. (George) Coulter along with numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Norman (Rod) Nevin in 2014, one son Jay Nevin in June 2015, her two sisters and their husbands Marilyn A. (Casey) Lakey, Mary L. (Jerry) Carter along with two brothers, Alvan (Tina) Sampson and Buddy R. (Donna) Sampson.

After her husband passed away, Margaret moved into a home at Holman Gardens retirement community in Spokane. Always a hard-working woman, Margaret continued her life-long love of flowers and gardening by working every day to keep the community's flowers and gardens appealing and inviting to residents and guests.

Margaret continued to be an active member of Holman Gardens, participating in many events and outings. She was also very talented and creative with sewing and crafts and generous with these type of gifts.

When Margaret had serious complications from Shingles, she needed to move into an adult family home. Later, she moved in with her daughter, Kathy, where she resided until her death.

Margaret will be greatly missed by many friends she had over the years and especially by her family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.

As an avid animal lover, and never without a dog or cat in her life, donations in her memory can be made to the Humane Society or Spokanimal.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Strate Funeral Home on Fri., Aug. 4, 2023. A private graveside service will be held for her family.
