City releases second quarter finances

64% of expenditure budget spent

DAVENPORT — The city finance committee reviewed the second quarter finances ahead of city council’s regular meeting Wednesday, July 12. 57% of the projected revenue came in, while the city spent 64% of its budget for second quarter expenditures.

However, the city spent only $305,581 of the budgeted $1,605,767 out of the current expense budget. In total, the city spent $2,748,625 of its budgeted $4,300,798 for the quarter.

Expenditures out of current expense included:

$22,730 to legislative and executive services

$30,610 to finance and facilities

$157,844 to law enforcement

$10,227 to fire

$3,259 to animal control

$10,393 to planning

$9,839 to building

$49,421 to parks and pools

$11,258 to other expenditures such as interfund transfers

Other expenditures outside the current expense fund included:

$1,878,987 to water

$195,584 to garbage

$151,759 to sewer

$141,479 to streets

$38,894 to the airport

$19,073 to cemeteries

$17,267 to the library

The city made $1,732,503 in revenue, 57% of a projected $3,034,275. The city had a beginning balance of $606,068 in the current expense fund, and the largest money-maker was local sales and use tax at $207,721.

Other current expense revenue sources included:

$163,068 in property taxes

$59,835 in utility taxes

$30,679 in local government assistance

$20,041 in activity and program fees

$18,161 in public safety sales tax

$16,211 in investment interest

$16,780 in facilities leases

$9,686 in building permits

$6,537 in liquor board profits

$5,993 in liquor excise taxes

$1,882 in animal licenses

Outside of current expense revenues, the city made the following revenues:

$196,303 in garbage fees

$119,638 in sewer fees

$113,503 in water fees

$14,865 in fuel taxes

$6,943 in real estate excise taxes

$2,874 in hotel/motel taxes

Following a review of the finances, a brief council meeting included approval of a resolution allowing the mayor to a ground rental agreement with Fred Meise of NorthWest Ag at the Municipal Airport and approval of donating $3,000 in tourism funds to Celebrate Davenport for community float construction.

Council next convenes at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 26 in City Hall.
