Budget update: Odessa School District

ODESSA — The school board approved the 2023-24 school district budget at its regular meeting Wednesday, July 26.

The district is budgeting for the following revenues:

• $4,896,986 to the general fund

• $216,000 to the associated student body fund

• $124,607 to the capital projects fund

• $208,898 to the transportation vehicle fund

The following planned expenditures were approved by the school board:

• $5,153,079 to the general fund

• $211,863 to the associated student body fund

• $390,000 to the capital projects fund

• $281,000 to the transportation vehicle fund

The budget creates deficits of $256,093 in the general fund, $265,392 in the capital projects fund and $72,102 in the transportation vehicle fund.

These deficits would be covered from the beginning total fund balance to the ending total fund balance.

The beginning fund balance in each fund is:

• $1,215,196 in the general fund

• $83,737 in the associated student body fund

• $282,463 in the capital projects fund

• $83,740 in the transportation vehicle fund

The projected ending total fund balance in each fund as approved by the board is:

• $959,103 in the general fund

• $88,774 in the associated student body fund

• $17,070 in the capital projects fund

• $11,638 in the transportation vehicle fund

District taxpayers will be providing $600,000 in excess levies for 2024 collection as part of the general fund budget.
