Fallen Soldier Cart coming here

Stops in Davenport, Reardan

REARDAN — The Patriot Guard Riders will be escorting the Alaska Airlines Fallen Soldier Cart around Eastern Washington in September, and two of their stops are in Lincoln County towns.

Most notably, the Riders will visit the Joe E. Mann Memorial in Reardan Town Park at 205 Oak Street around 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16.

There, Mann, a World War II hero from Reardan who sacrificed his life at 22 years old by jumping on a grenade to save fellow soldiers, will be honored.

Locals will have the opportunity to view the Fallen Soldier Cart, a program started by Alaska Airlines in 2011 to help remember veterans lost in the line of duty and ensure their bodies are transported to and from aircraft with respect and care.

The stop in Reardan is the last of 12 stops that will span 462 miles between the two days, starting at Quality Inn in SeaTac Friday, Sept. 15. Riders will be arriving from Mistequa Casino in Chewelah.

A stop in Davenport will occur around 3:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 at Cenex on Morgan Street. That stop succeeds a visit to American Legion in Ephrata and precedes a ride to Addy Fuel in Chewelah.

Other stops for the Fallen Soldier Cart include Angle Lake Park and Warrior Quick Stop in Cle Elum, Laurel Hill Memorial Cemetery and American Legion in Ellensburg and American Legion Post 54 in Chewelah.

The stop in Davenport is expected to be 20 minutes and allow for riders to fill up on fuel.

45 minutes is expected for the stop at Reardan Town Park.
