Odessa pulls away from Springdale

SPRINGDALE — The Odessa football team has found its way back into a winning rhythm after a pair of lopsided losses to conclude September. The Tigers got an overwhelming 52-22 victory over the Mary Walker Chargers on the road Friday, Oct. 13.

The win came a week after a big Homecoming/Senior Night victory over Inchelium the week prior.

The game didn’t start out looking like an Odessa blowout. The Chargers took a 22-14 lead into halftime.

But then the Tigers flipped a switch and blitzed Mary Walker out of intermission, outscoring the home team 38-0 in the second half.

“It was good to see the boys to go through adversity and succeed,” Odessa head coach Joe Schlomer said.

Corbyn Neilson led the Odessa attack with 260 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Zane McMillan added two rushing touchdowns and 63 yards on the ground.

Defensively, Dakota Steward had two tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception for the Tigers.

Odessa improved to 5-2 with the victory and concludes the regular season at Almira/Coulee-Hartline at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20. The following weekend will be District Crossover matchups.
