Tigers on the road this weekend

ODESSA-The Lady Tigers started off with a strong win, then suffered their first defeat of the season in two games of action against Selkirk and Oakesdale to tip off the 2023-24 season.

Odessa started the season against the visiting Selkirk Rangers and defeated its visitors 40-31 Friday, Dec. 2. The Tigers shut out the Rangers 6-0 in the first quarter before building a 19-9 halftime lead.

Both teams played a relatively even second half, and Odessa held on for a nine-point win despite Selkirk holding the fourth quarter scoring advantage 14-10.

Melloney Deife carried the scoring load for Odessa, scoring 20 points. Reegan Carstensen added eight points for the Tigers.

Odessa next hosted a nonconference matchup against District 9 Oakesdale, the reigning fourth-place state finisher. The visiting Nighthawks handed the Tigers a 47-31 loss to drop Odessa to 1-1 this season.

Down Deife, who is out this week due to a family commitment, Odessa played Oakesdale to a 9-9 first quarter tie before the Nighthawks steadily built their lead throughout the rest of the game.

Hayden Schuh notched her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Odessa now has a road back-to-back this weekend. The Tigers are at Chesterton Academy Friday, Dec. 8 and at Wilbur-Creston-Keller at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.
