100 years ago

Lincoln County pioneer and former Auditor J.W. Anderson, who lived in Sprague, Harrington and Davenport, died from complications following a medical operation.

Davenport sign painter Jack Lowe was fined $75 and sentenced to 30 days in jail after he admitted to possessing liquor.

Nearly half of local schoolchildren missed classes due to a measles outbreak.

WSU football coach Phil Sorboe spoke at the annual Davenport Commercial club banquet.

A fundraising drive was held to raise funds aiming at fighting polio.

A new Davenport grade school building was unveiled. “Gee! It’s swell” was the most common exclamation used by pupils.

50 years ago

Davenport city councilors voted to accept a state grant to finance a well and reservoir.

Kelley Sewall, Yvonne Heimbiger, Shelley Meyer, Heidi Sewall and Kathy Wilcox of Harrington, who were all injured in a van-truck collision near Ritzville around Christmas, were released from the hospital.

Davenport Chamber of Commerce members devised a bad check system, but said it wasn’t due to expected out-of-town traffic caused by the Expo 74 in Spokane.

John Coley was installed as Lincoln County Sheriff with 21 commissioned officers and eight reserves.

Davenport High School student Kami Geissler traveled to Pullman for a week to pursue the title of Washington’s Junior Miss.

A new Little Guys Wrestling Club, the Reardan Renegades, was formed for local boys aged 5-14. Frank Heidt was head coach.

10 years ago

Michael Van Pevenage of Harrington summited Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

Several school measures were on the local ballot, including bonds to renovate Reardan Elementary School and Smith Gym and M&O levies in Harrington and Odessa.

Winterfest activities began in Davenport and Reardan, with Reardan principal Courtney Strozyk emphasizing the main goal of the annual rivalry week was to fill the shelves of area food banks.
