Wade wins state chute dogging title

Reserve champ in steer bareback

ODESSA - A local eighth-grader is this year's Washington Junior High School Rodeo Association State Champion chute dogger and Reserve Champion steer bareback rider. Winston Wade, 14, who has been doing rodeo for only two years, earned the prizes at the state finals May 23-27 in Moses Lake.

Wade started entering junior rodeos two years ago when his family moved to Odessa from Nebraska.

"I always wanted to ride bulls," Wade said. "That's how I got started chute dogging."

Wade said he was inspired by attending a clinic in Toppenish, where instructor Joel Knapp helped him discover his passion.
