Rattlesnakes are out early and are abundant in the Odessa area. Edwin Weber, a high school student has killed 4 already this year. He caught a small one and took it to the school where they experimented on it with ether and chloroform. The ether had no effect but the chloroform killed the snake.

The federal government is forecasting a national shortfall of 116 million bushels for this year. This is due to heavy winter kill. Farmers are advised to have supplemental income such as animals.
