Five fires hit county; NWS sees 20 strikes

DAVENPORT - Lightning strikes over the Labor Day weekend sparked multiple fires in the area, including incidents on Sterret Road, Egypt Loop, and Linstrum, officials said.
The National Weather Service reported about 20 lightning strikes over the weekend, with the most occurring Sunday, Aug. 31.
Craig Sweet, District 5 fire chief, said his department handled three fires in the district while assisting neighboring stations with others.
