DAVENPORT - The Davenport girls basketball team opened its season with a victory and the boys fell short as the Gorillas split a doubleheader against Lake Roosevelt on Tuesday night.
Clare Lathrop and Glenna Soliday each scored 19 points in the girls' game, leading the Gorillas to a 69-39 win while dominating the boards from start to finish. Davenport never trailed, building an 18-9 lead after the first quarter and maintaining control throughout. Lathrop pulled down 17 rebounds, and Charlotte Soliday added 10 points as the Gorillas outrebounded Lake Roosevelt 50-21.
