City to update fireworks rules

REARDAN — The City Council is plans to rewrite its fireworks ordinance.

During the Thursday, July 2 meeting, council members agreed the ordinance written in 1956 needs to be modernized.

Existing rules include references to chlorate of potash and cat pistols, which are no longer relevant, officials said.

Mayor Kathy Eastman said she will research ordinances from other towns that allow fireworks, including Airway Heights and Medical Lake, and bring back a draft to review....
