Grant funds stream tire removal

PORCUPINE BAY — Hundreds of legacy tires embedded in a small tributary near Porcupine Bay for more than 60 years are finally set to be removed under a new state grant awarded to the Lincoln County Conservation District.

The district received a Terry Husseman Grant from the Washington Department of Ecology to restore the fish-bearing waterway that flows into Lake Roosevelt. The tires, placed in the stream channel and banks in the 1960s, have been slowly degrading and releasing contaminants.
