DAVENPORT—Those who live in Lincoln County typically tout their personal advantages of living here: Small-town life, getting away from the city, friendly communities and affordable cost-of-living rates. But can the county support growth as more people seek those values, and if so, where? The answer, many stakeholders feel, is yes…if the county can support the infrastructure. “We have to look at the age of the infrastructure to see if it could handle more development,” retired Lincoln County commissioner Mark Stedman said la...

What to fix for dinner? To paraphrase a saying circulating in social media recently, I didn’t realize that being an adult meant wondering what to fix for dinner for the rest of my life would be the most challenging question. Throw picky eaters, sudden schedule changes and forgetting to thaw meat into the mix and you may end up with lukewarm takeout or heating a frozen pizza. More home-cooked meals may have been on your New Years’ resolution list. You have scanned the internet for recipe ideas. All you need now is to fol...
DAVENPORT — Mayor Brad Sweet hopes to see more apartment complexes and housing developments in the city, he said during an annual mayor and media meeting with The Record-Times this week. Sweet said he met with a contractor who said garage-over condos might suit the city as an option for higher-end apartments that those with reliable, solid incomes could occupy. He also wants to eventually expand Cottonwood Apartments for more local low-income housing options. Other than three houses being built by the Municipal Airport, t...

The Central Committee conducted interviews with the four candidates last weekend and found that, in their eyes, just two met the requirements to be a Republican candidate for the seat. “We...
