Monica Deife has spent the past couple of years living and working in Odessa, interspersed with several trips back to her home in Japan or to join her husband on a business trip to another foreign country. The tenth annual Friends of the Pool Walk-A-Thon was held Sunday, April 19, and raised over $3,000 as of this Tuesday. According to Suzie Deife, FOP President, a total of 62 walkers collected pledges. Most of the walkers were school-aged children, but participants ranged in age from one year old to adults who took advantage of the fresh air and exercise. Those who gathered pledges walked or ran a total of 1,016 laps around the track at Finney Field for a total of 254 miles or an average of more than four miles per person....
There are new regulations from the national organization of the Veterans of Foreign Wars concerning membership. A member may no longer be reinstated if their membership lapses. They will now have to fill out a new membership application. For those members who did not pay their membership dues this year, it has been covered. Teresa Scrupps, who teaches junior-high math at Cheney Middle School, was honored March 20 by the West Plains Chamber of Commerce as the Best of the West Plains Teacher of the Year. The Odessa Golf Course has undergone quite a transformation since the McCullar family purchased it.
