Due to the high cost of fresh crab this spring, the Odessa Lions Club offered a “Surf and Turf” dinner featuring steak and lobster instead. The dinner was held March 10, and drew over 200 diners. The Bi-County Academic Competition for children in grades 3 through 8 was held in Reardan recently and was attended by nine area schools, including Odessa and Harrington. Long-time Odessa resident Ruth Suchland died Tuesday, March 7, 2012 in Puyallup at the age of 86. She was born April 6, 1925 in Odessa to Henry and Kathryn Derr. The Odessa Friends of the Pool met recently to wrap up our 2011 fundraisers and look forward to our 2012 season; both fundraisers and goals. As the treasurer, I was able to report that last year we were able to donate $22,000 to the Town of Odessa! The donation was an accumulation of three years’ worth of fundraising with the goal of relining all four of the pools. Odessa’s Old Town Hall was the designated site for Republicans of Lincoln County Commissioner District 1 to caucus on March 3. A total of 18 precents were represented at the event. The 94th annual Spokesman-Review Inland Northwest Trapshoot contest officially ended as of Sunday, February 26. The combined Marlin-Odessa teams finished in second place, one point behind the Colton Gun Club and one point ahead of Garfield-St. John in Division I. At the February 23, 2012, meeting of the Odessa School Board, board members and administrators heard the concerns of several parents of 5th-grade students. Town Marshal Mike Wren, who has worked for the Town of Odessa for the past five years, resigned Monday morning, a move that left town officials as well as the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office scrambling to cover the town’s law enforcement needs.
