Softball

The Titan girls, having difficulty with putting enough players on the field for any given game, have opted to forfeit the rest of their season, according to head coach Chris Shafer. The team will continue its regular schedule of practices, however, with a view to building a more successful program next year.

Baseball

Reardan, April 17

On Tuesday of last week, April 17, the Titan boys played Reardan at home in Odessa, splitting the double header with one win and one loss. The scores were:

Jared King pitched the entire game and got the win. Stetson Sanford was the catcher. Offensive leaders for the Titans were Justin Hunt, Cade Weber and King, all three getting doubles in the game.

Hunt was the starting pitcher for game 2, relieved by Sam Schafer in the fourth, who was relieved in turn by Brett Larmer in the sixth. Sanford was again at catcher. Hunt belted out another double to pace the Titans, but it wasn’t enough, and Reardan took game 2 by a score of 10-7.

Columbia, April 21

The Titans had an easier time of it on Saturday, coasting to two lopsided victories over Columbia (Hunters). Columbia appeared to be rather short-handed, playing at least one young man who appeared to be quite a bit younger than the rest.

King was the starting pitcher, relieved by Markus Smith in the fourth. Sanford was catcher.

The Titans were led offensively by Schafer with a triple and by Sanford and Smith, who each had a double in the game.

Starting pitcher for O-H was Hunt, relieved by Cade Weber in the third. Larmer came on to relieve Weber in the fifth. Sanford started at catcher and was relieved by Schafer in the third.

Hunt and Carsen Weber each got a triple in the game, while King, Jake Tanke and Carsen Weber each got a double.

Tennis

In tennis, the Titans were defeated Saturday, April 21, by St. George’s High School (SG) by a score of 3-0.

In the top singles matchup, Darby Pierce of SG defeated Cydnee Kieffer of O-H 6-1 and 6-0. In the second singles match, Kate Hamilton of SG defeated Kaeli Shockley of O-H 6-1 and 7-5, Shockley fighting hard to stay with her opponent in the second game. In doubles, Manisha Sinha and Liz Alexianu of SG defeated Davianne Minaker and Laura Kinny of O-H 6-1,6-2.

On April 23, O-H traveled to Ritzville to compete against Lind-Ritzville/Sprague. The Broncos won the match, 5-0.

The first girls singles match saw Tracy Melville defeat Cydnee Kieffer, 6-1,6-2. The #2 singles match was won by Lindy Brown over Kaeli Shockley, 6-0,6-0. The #3 singles match went to LRS by forfeit. In first doubles, K. Melville and C. Heidenreich defeated Mayumi Matsuzoe and Pilly Pap, 6-1,6-2. LRS won the #2 doubles match by forfeit.

Golf

A very wet course and cool, windy conditions forced Titan golfers to play winter rules April 17 at Fairways golf course in Spokane. Nine schools were represented at the 18-hole top 6 tournament .

In boys team competition, Odessa-Harrington/Sprague finished in third with 507, behind Colfax (440) and Kettle Falls (488). Lind/Ritzville was fourth with 512, followed by Cusick (514), Davenport (539), Northwest Christian (541), Wilbur/Creston (556) and Inchelium (569). Boys medalists were T. Stevenson and A. Johnson of Colfax, who each shot 82.

Titan boys individual scores were Griffey Powell 91, Joe Cronrath 96, Ricky Hedreen 99, Nick Nelson 102, Madison Charlton 104 and Kelby Braun 106.

There were no girls team scores. Kira Powell of Odessa was girls medalist with 83. Hailey Williams finished with 121.

Conditions were much improved April 23 at Deer Park golf course; sunny, warm and without wind. Coach Sam Read reports that “As the weather continues to improve so do our golf scores.”

Kira Powell was once again medalist, with a fine round. She shot a season low of 77. Hailey Williams finished with 110 and Isabelle Phillips with 112. According to Read, both “continue to make great strides in the game.”

Boys medalist was Wade Moses of Davenport with 84. Odessa-Harrington/Sprague finished in first place with 475, followed by Lind/Ritzville (485), Northwest Christian (495), Kettle Falls (501), Wilbur-Creston (505), Davenport (510), Cusick (529) and Inchelium (636).

Odessa-Harrington boys individual scores were Griffey Powell 85, Madison Charlton 94, Zack Schaal 98, Joe Cronrath 98, Ricky Hedreen 99 and Nick Nelson 105.

The regular season will wind up soon, with play at Warden April 26 and Colville May 1. Sub-district play is May 7, boys at Meadowood in Spokane and girls at Liberty Lake.

Track and field

Medical Lake, April 14

The Undeberg Invitational Track and Field Meet was held Saturday, April 14, at Medical Lake High School. The state FBLA conference was the same weekend, so only two boys represented the O-H teams.

Individual results:

Garret Braun was 49th in the 100 meters in a time of 13.12a and 38th in the 200 emters in a time of 27.88a.

Ryan Greenwalt ran the 800 meters in 2:35.00a for 32nd and the 1600 meters in 5:41.01 for 41st.

In the javelin event, Braun was 29th with a throw of 103’ 9” and Greenwalt was 52nd with 90’ 8”.

Davenport, April 17

In a District 7 League Meet held Tuesday, April 17, at Davenport High School, the team was back to full strength. Team results were:

4x400 relay: The team of Garret Braun, Jacob Dewulf, Ryan Greenwalt and Austin Schmierer came in 7th in 4:12.45.

Javelin (800g): Braun was 15th with a throw of 101’06”, Dewulf 17th with 100’01”, Greenwalt 21st with 92’04” and Tyler Paris 28th with 71’10”.

Triple jump: Jacob Dewulf was 5th with a leap of 36’05.00”

200 meters: Tanke was 4th in 28.22.

800 meters: Melani Fehrer was 17th in 3:17.00

4x200 relay: The team of Chelsea Fisher, Jordyn Tanke, Hannah Schmidt and Koralynne Kuch placed 2nd in 1:55.31.

Shot put (4kg): Fisher was 5th with 26’07.00” and Fehrer 13th with 21’08.50”

Javelin (600g): Fisher was 2nd with a throw of 95’00” and Fehrer 16th with 48’01”.

Long jump: Schmidt was 2nd at 14’08.00” and Kuch 11th at 12’07.00.

Triple jump: Kuch took 3rd at 29’00.50”, Fisher 4th at 28’10.00“ and Schmidt 9th at 27’00.50“.

Quincy, April 21

In Quincy last Saturday, April 21, the Titans made a good showing against some much larger rival schools. The meet was won by Ephrata High School, taking the title in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions. The O-H boys did not place in the top 20 as a team, but the girls tied with Omak High School for 15th place.
