VFW members David Nixon and John Hardt place two new flags dedicated this year at the Odessa cemetary in remembrance of deceased veterans Dean Iltz and Kenneth Allum. Monday's breezy conditions kept the flags snapping in the wind.
The Memorial Day program at the Odessa Cemetery was well-attended again this year. As during most years in the recent past, the wind was a constant companion, making the scores of dedicated flags snap briskly throughout the ceremony.
American Legion member Bob Kissler introduced the program presenters, Mike Hardung, who urged two volunteer veterans to help him place the wreath at the World War II tank memorial, and Pastor Jon Hayashi of Heritage Church in Odessa, who presented the main part of the program, along with the invocation and closing prayer.
