Raffle for fire department

Lorilynn White of My Sisters’ Closet, Odessa’s second-hand and antique shop, has organized a raffle to assist the Odessa volunteer fire department to purchase new protective suits.

White attended Monday night’s town council meeting, where town fire chief Don Strebeck requested assistance with the purchase after having determined that the gear currently owned by the department is out of compliance with standards. After hearing what the new gear would cost, White decided she would donate four jewelry items to be raffled off, with the proceeds going toward the purchase of new protective gear.

The four pieces that White is donating are new items, not second-hand, and are all either sterling silver or 14-karat gold that she was able to obtain at a reasonable price at Macy’s. She plans to sell only 200 tickets, and when they are sold, the raffle will be over. Tickets will cost $5 each.

White said the volunteers put their lives on the line every time they go out on a fire call. She wants to help make sure that they are kept as safe as possible and have the best possible equipment.

Posters are being put up all over town, giving the particulars of the raffle and a description of the jewelry items to be raffled.
