Art contest

Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers invites high school students throughout the Fifth Congressional District to participate in the 32nd Annual Congressional Art Competition, “An Artistic Discovery,” which began in 1982 as a way to recognize and encourage the artistic talent.

The winning student will be invited to Washington, DC for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and will have the artwork displayed in the Capitol for one year. The winner will receive two airline tickets from Southwest Airlines to see the artwork on display. Students are encouraged to submit various styles and types of art, ranging from paintings and drawings to photography and mixed media pieces. The artwork must be original in design, weigh no more than 15 pounds, be no larger than 28” x 28” x 4” and be prepared for hanging. Each student may submit one piece. Submissions may be brought to the Congresswoman’s offices in Spokane, Walla Walla and Colville.

The deadline is April 23, 2014. For any further questions, participants may contact Kristy.Sauer@mail.house.gov.
