Court Report

SUPERIOR COURT

John F. Strohmaier, Judge

Criminal Disposition

Ryan Joseph Brereton, 35, Spokane Valley, pleaded guilty April 15 to attempting to elude a police vehicle and was sentenced to 90 days jail (credit for time served), $800 court costs and six months probation. He is prohibited from having firearms. A reckless driving charge was dismissed after plea negotiations. The charge involved a March 14 pursuit at high speeds through downtown Davenport that ended at the SR 2-Rocklyn Road intersection after a deputy placed spike strips on the roadway. He was clocked at about 85 mph, passing other vehicles on the SR 2 bridge just east of Davenport, having "no regard for oncoming traffic" or pedestrians on sidewalks and in crosswalks. He allegedly left the scene of a traffic stop at Trader's Express after arguing with a deputy about his impending arrest for reckless driving. After his vehicle hit the spike strips, slid off the highway and ended up in a ditch, he allegedly tried to run away on foot, but was apprehended after a brief chase.

Civil Judgments

The court granted a five-year protection order requested by Seven Bays residents James D. and Sharon Craft against their grandson, Cody James Craft, who is prohibited from being within 1½ miles of their Bayview Court home. He also was ordered to have no email or phone contact as well. The petition was filed after a March 30 break-in at the residence, for which Craft was charged with first-degree burglary, theft of a firearm and possession of stolen property.
