Seven track/ field athletes head to state

On Tuesday, May 20, the District 7 track and field meet was held at Whitworth University in Spokane. The Odessa-Harrington Titan boys took first place as a team and the girls finished fourth. Odessa junior Sam Schafer posted four first-place wins and senior Hannah Schmidt three to pace their respective teams. Jacob DeWulf also garnered a first place in the javelin.

Boys

In the 100 meters, Sam Schafer was first in 11.40, and teammate Garret Braun was eighth in 12.90. Schafer’s first-place time in the 200 meters was 23.26.

In the 800 meters, Tyler Paris was third in 2:07.0 and Jacob DeWulf sixth in 2:27.0.

In the 1600 meters, Paris finished sixth in 5:11.88.

Running the 110-m hurdles, Aaron Gies was fifth in 19.30. In the 300-m hurdles John Dewulf was fifth in 48.51, Gies was seventh in 52.33 and Cole Kissler was eighth in 53.14.

The 4x100 relay team of Braun, Jacob DeWulf, Paris and Gies finished fourth in a time of 50.95.

Competing in the shot put, Jacob DeWulf finished fifth with a throw of 37-02.00 and Trevor King was sixth at 35-11.25. In the discus, King was fifth at 115-04.

In the javelin, Jacob DeWulf’s throw of 137-05 was good enough for first place. Braun was fourth with 128-05 and freshman John DeWulf was 11th with 103-04.

In the pole vault, John DeWulf was third at 9-06.00 and Cole Kissler fourth at 9-00.00.

Three Titans placed in the long jump, with Schafer first at 19-08.50, Braun fifth at15-09.50 and Gies sixth at 15-09.00.

In the triple jump, Schafer nabbed his fourth and final first-place finish with a leap of 39-09.75. John DeWulf was fourth at 36-03.75.

Girls

In the 100 meters Jordyn Tanke was second in 13.20 and Hannah Schmidt fourth in 13.65. Tanke also placed second in the 200 meters in a time of 27.47.

Running the 800 meters, Jenna Shafer was sixth in 2:59.27.

The 4x100 relay team of Hannah Schmidt, Lanessa Simon, Carley Williams and Jordyn Tanke was first in 52.54, and the 4x200 relay the team of Schmidt, Simon, Chelsea Fisher and Tanke also placed first in 1:50.33.

In the shot put, Chelsea Fisher placed sixth at 28-00.00, and in the discus Jenna Shafer was 10th with 71-03. Shafer also placed eighth in the javelin at 78-05.

In the long jump, Schmidt grabbed first place with a leap of 15-04.25. Williams was ninth at 12-10.00.

Simon took second in the triple jump with a leap of 32-01.00, also qualifying for state in that event.
