Four retire from school district

Four employees of the Odessa School District retired at the end of the school year in early June. Together, the four of them put in over 100 years of service to the district and the community.

Jackie Allington worked as a substitute teacher for the district from 1974 to l988. In August of 1987, she was hired as a home economics teacher at one-third of full time. All together, she worked 26 years in Odessa, plus 1.5 years outside the state before she moved to Odessa.

Sam Read came to the district in September of 1983, where he worked for 31 years as the junior-high science teacher and junior-high physical education teacher.

Deb Walter was hired as a bus driver in August of 1978 and drove her route reliably for the next 36 years.

Apryl Wraspir was hired in December of 1975 as a library aide and para-educator. She remained in those positions for 38.5 years.

A potluck lunch was held for the retiring teachers on the last day of school. As farewell gifts, they received homemade items: a pillow case (Read), an apron (Walter), a quilt (Allington) and another quilt (Wraspir).
