To the Editor:

On Thursday, September 18, House Speaker John Boehner (R) made his first direct comment about those who do not work: “This idea that has been born [not working], maybe out of the economy over the last couple years, that you know, ‘I really don’t want to work. I don’t really want to do this. I think I’d rather just sit around.’ This is a very sick idea for our country.”

If it is now safe for the first time for House Speaker Boehner to dis those who do not work, then all Americans can now also safely dis the members of Congress for not working.

You see, Thursday, September 18, marked the end of the two four-day work weeks Congress has been in session since coming back from its five weeks of not working during the summer while members of Congress were out raising money for their campaigns, at taxpayer expense, mind you.

After Thursday’s Congressional sessions ended, the House (and then the Senate) took another time off to last through the week after the November elections. That’s an additional eight more weeks of not working. From August to the week after the November elections, Congress will have worked only eight days. Imagine, eight work days out of 95 calendar days!

That’s a nice gig to not work and still be paid full time with benefits while you are out raising money for yourself!

Of course, House Speaker John Boehner is correct about those who do not work: “This is a very sick idea for our country.”

Thank you, John. I could not have said it better myself.
