Titan football team #1 in league; district starts Friday

Odessa-Harrington, carrying its season record to 8-1 (5-0 in league play), defeated Almira/Coulee-Hartline by a score of 54-8 last Friday in Coulee City. It was the final game of league play.

Sage Elder scored first on a 13-yard run. The extra-point attempt failed. Younger brother Gaven Elder scored next on a 35-yard run. S. Elder completed a pass play from quarterback Colton Hunt for an extra 2 points for the first-quarter scoring.

In the second quarter, S. Elder caught a 34-yard pass from Hunt. The attempt on the ground was unsuccessful. S. Elder scored again from one yard out. John DeWulf received the pass from Hunt for the two-point conversion. Garrison Schmierer then scored on a 6-yard pass play from Hunt. The pass for extra points was not caught, and the half ended with a score of 34-0.

After the half, ACH came out strong, getting the second half's first score on a 3-yard running play and 2-point conversion.

G. Elder then responded with a 2-yard run for the touchdown. The pass play for 2 failed. S. Elder scored the final points of the third quarter on a 2-yard run. Again, the extra-point attempt failed.

In the final quarter, Jacob Montgomery scored the only points for either team on a 1-yard run for the TD. DeWulf caught Hunt's pass for the two-point conversion.

Defensively, S. Elder had 14 tackles, Dakota Largent 11, Montgomery 6, Colby Sooy 4, Dylan Shockley 3 and 1 interception, DeWulf 12, Schmierer 5 and 1 interception, G. Elder 5, Cole Kissler 3 and Wyatt Haase 5.

Sage and Gaven Elder combined for 272 yards rushing and six touchdowns to clinch the Northeast 1B South league title.

District crossover playoff games begin Friday in Odessa with a double-header. The first game begins at 4 p.m., when the Pateros Billygoats (#3 in the NE 1B south league) play the Selkirk Rangers (#3 in the NE 1B north league) for the fifth seed to the District 7/9 crossover game. The winner of that game moves on to the playoffs as the #5 seed while the loser is eliminated.

The second game begins at 7 p.m., when the Odessa-Harrington Titans (#1 in NE 1B south) take on the Republic Tigers (#1 in NE 1B north). Both the Titans and the Tigers bring an 8-1 record into the game. The winner advances to the District 7/9 crossover game as the #1 seed and plays the District 9 #4 seed. The loser advances as the #2 seed and plays the District 9 #3 seed (Garfield-Palouse) in the first round of playoffs. The Cusick Panthers (#2 in the NE 1B north) host the Entiat Tigers (#2 in the NE 1B south), with the winner of this competition entering the District 7/9 crossover game as the #3 seed and the loser as the #4 seed.
