January 21, 1915

The immigration campaign started last July by the Spokane chamber of commerce has now reached a point where it is certain that hundreds of farmers and their families are coming to Eastern Washington.

Miroslav Totusek was an Odessa visitor on Friday of last week.

H.C. Phillips returned Tuesday from Brookfield, Missouri, where he had been visiting for two weeks with his people.

Louis Zicha and F.F. Browning, two popular young businessmen, will open a pool hall and confectionery store in the Kelly buiding which was recently vacated by Schoonover & Son.

Chas. K. Goede this morning sold a quarter section of farm land, lying several miles south of Odessa in Adams county, to Jacob Kagele, a farmer residing near Schrag.

January 18, 1940

A representative of Westinghouse spoke at a Commercial Club meeting about the necessity for communities to install electic lights to light up the town at night for the safety of residents.

Total earnings of the Washington Liquor Control board since its inception in 1935 to the close of its fiscal year period on September 30, 1939 amounted to the staggering sum of $20,392,006, according to figures compiled in the office of the state auditor.

During that time, about $10 million went to the state and $8 million went to counties and cities of the state.

January 18, 1990

Eight-thousand dollars in buiding permits were issued by the town during 1964. About $43,000 in permits was issued for business buildings while about $36,000 was approved for some remodeling and repair. No new homes were constructed in Odessa during the past year, however, several had majorremodeling and repair.

Kerri Watters was named Odessa’s Junior Miss in a program that initiated the high school’s new multipurpose room almost a year ago. Now, as she prepares to go to Pullman for next week’s state program, she will compete for the title of Washington’s 1990 Young Woman of the Year.

Tom Clavel visited The Odessa Record office to demonstrate the new web page he is designing for Odessa’s Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber also discussed new ideas which could revitalize Deutschesfest and Spring Fling included having a “cook-off,” such as a sausage cook-off.
