VFW Ladies Auxiliary news

There are new regulations from the national organization of the Veterans of Foreign Wars concerning membership. A member may no longer be reinstated if their membership lapses. They will now have to fill out a new membership application.

For those members who did not pay their membership dues this year, it has been covered. It was not paid out of the treasury but was paid for by another club member.

The community service reporting year is over except for the membership portion. The numbers for this year are: 224 programs, 3,539 volunteer hours, $5,495 donated and 4,358 miles driven. We receive $.14 per mile credit, so that brings our total money donated to $6103.12.

Those members who no longer attend meetings but volunteer their services are asked to call Leora Nixon at 982-2847 with your hours, miles and dollar amounts. We need to report in order to keep our non-profit status.

At the most recent meeting, those present voted to keep the same slate of officers for the coming year. Installation of officers will be performed by Department Chief of Staff Karen Flynn on May 21. A potluck dinner will be served at 6 p.m., prior to the meeting

If any ladies out there had a grandparent, parent, child or sibling who has served in a war zone, you are most likely a candidate for membership. Meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Old Town Hall in Odessa. We would love to see you there. For questions or to get additional information, call Leora Nixon at 982-2847.
