JH football off to good start with two early-season wins

The Odessa-Harrington junior-high football team is off to a winning start this year, chalking up victories in its first two outings. They defeated Almira/Coulee-Hartline 48-28 and Wellpinit 60-12, per coach Larry Weber.

In the Wellpinit game, Camden Weber, Marcus King, Josh Clark Jett Nelson and Pilot Weishaar all scored touchdowns

The Titans dominated both games, so many of the younger players have seen plenty of playing time. The team continues to develop and mold a new offense, so that these young players will more easily make the jump to the high school program knowing their assignments.

The team consists of 8th-graders, Josh Clark, Kenadie Elder, Jonny Hayashi, Jaden Hunt, Eric Johnston, Marcus King, Kameron Martin, Ben Melgren, Jakob Starkel, Brady Walter and Camden Weber and 7th graders Tim DeWulf, David Hayashi, Chase Kissler, Ryan Melgren, Colton Messer, Jett Nelson, Keith Strebeck and Pilot Weishaar.

“The kids have taken to the new offense being run this year, said Weber. The booster club helped to support attendance at camp over the summer and that helped make the transition to a new offense go more smoothly.

The next home game is Thursday, October 8, at 6 p.m. under the lights. A barbecue will be held following the game for the Titan fans and the visiting team.
