Women's Health Night draws large crowd

October 14 was the date of Women's Health Night, an annual event paid for by grants awarded to the Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center and Clinic. Members of the medical community and volunteer residents of the town put on an informative and enjoyable evening for Odessa's women.

Again this year, members of the Odessa High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America, their parents and their advisor Terri King prepared the dinner. On the menu this year were chicken/pineapple/bell pepper shish kebabs cooked on the outdoor grill of the Odessa Riders Club by Don Strebeck and Chris Crossley.

Lincoln County Health Dept. nurse Jolene Erickson, who also serves as Odessa's part-time school nurse was the emcee for the evening. Additional speakers were Barbara Schlimmer, Odessa Clinic manager, providing reminders and insurance signup deadline information. Dr. Deanna Davison of Lincoln Hospital in Davenport and Dr. Linda Powell of OMHC also spoke.

A panel of breast cancer survivors shared their stories of cancer treatment and how friends and family members helped them along the way. On the panel were Sheryl Roberts and Karen Edens of Odessa and Carol Holden and her significant other Greg Sanders, both friends of Barb Schlimmer.
