Odessa Girl Scouts stay busy throughout holiday season

Members of the local Girl Scout Troop have had a busy October and November with outings to the long-term care wing of the hospital, the Quail Court assisted-living facililty and the Odessa Historical Museum. These visits were part of efforts to earn new patches and badges.

At Quail Court and the long-term care wing, the Girl Scouts played bingo with some of the residents. They also raked and played in the leaves outside the long-term care wing. These visits were part of earning the Cadette badge “Finding Common Ground.”

At the Odessa Historical Museum, Odessa native Paul Scheller talked to the Girl Scouts about the history of Odessa and the families that originally settled here. He also let them walk through and look at anything that interested them personally. This event helped them to earn a Museum Patch.

Currently, six of the Girl Scouts, Alyssa Iverson, Rachel Anderson, Chloe Winkler, Jocelyn Zigan, Trenidee Zyph and Mackenzie Lutz, are working with the Wilbur Girl Scout Troop to raise money for a 12-day trip to Washington, DC in the summer of 2017. Each girl is responsible for raising $2,300. The scouts will be conducting fundraising efforts throughout the coming year and a half to help them achieve their goals.
