INCIDENT LOG

Editor’s note: Most items in this section reflect the starting point for response by local police and emergency agencies. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office does not release names of individuals who report possible criminal or suspicious activities to dispatchers or alleged victims for this column.

Monday, April 25: Wilbur ambulance and MedStar aerial ambulance personnel, along with an off-duty firefighter and sheriff’s deputies assisted in the transport of a patient from the U.S. 2 Telford rest area to a Spokane hospital.

The driver of a two-ton flatbed truck that lost control on Ruffed Grouse Drive, Davenport, and ran over a large power box suffered broken teeth and a bloody nose.

Reardan Police investigated a reported theft of a motor vehicle near the intersection of Broadway Avenue (U.S. 2) and Lake Street.

Tuesday, April 26: Deputies were sent to a residence near 2nd and G streets in Sprague after “a lot of screaming” resulted after a man reportedly locked his wife out of the house.

A county jail inmate suffered an apparent seizure and was transported to Lincoln Hospital for treatment.

A deputy responded to the 400 block of South F Street in Sprague where individuals were reportedly involved in a dispute over a lawn mower.

Deputies and Wilbur Police worked together to make a domestic assault arrest after initially responding to a report of a woman who “threw a fit” inside the Wilbur Mini-Mart after making a purchase she later regretted.

Reardan Police checked out a report of a 10-year-old boy being struck with a stick in the city park.

Wednesday, April 27: Gas was siphoned from two vehicles parked in the Davenport Safeway parking lot. One of the drivers subsequently tried to make it to his residence north of Davenport but ran out of fuel before getting there.

After conducting his own search, a man told dispatchers that he couldn’t find a wallet he believes he may have lost at Rickey Corner Mart, Davenport Auto Parts, Banner Bank or North Basin Medical Clinic in Davenport.

An ambulance was sent to a Deer Heights residence after dispatchers learned he hadn’t eaten in 10 days and was the focus of a caller’s concern.

Wilbur Police responded to a woman’s report that a wallet had been stolen from a residence in the 700 block of SE Regent.

Thursday, April 28: Sprague ambulance personnel assisted a man suffering extreme back pain.

A report that a turkey and chicken were stolen from property in Almira and that the turkey’s headless and breast-less carcass was later found along U.S. 2 near Hartline was determined to be unfounded.

A caller reported an erratically driven pickup truck with three male occupants almost ran over a dog while traveling at a high rate of speed on Gravelle Road near its intersection with U.S. 2.

Harrington ambulance personnel assisted an 80-year-old man reportedly choking while at a residence in the 500 block of South 1st Street.

A caller advised dispatchers of a man and woman with two dogs were standing on Welch Creek Road near its intersection with Miles Creston Road drinking beer and offering some to passing motorists.

Friday, April 29: A caller advised he found a female badger that had been fatally hit on the side of a roadway in the Odessa area, leaving behind a baby that is a couple weeks old.

As many as 10 mailboxes along Hart Road north of Davenport were damaged by what appeared to be pieces of firewood thrown from a moving motor vehicle between Teel Hill Road and SR 25.

Deputies investigated the theft of a motor vehicle from property adjacent to SR 231 in the Sprague area and explored a possible link to an incident in Stevens County.

Deputies assisted local juvenile authorities with a possible truancy incident involving two boys who are students at Davenport High School.

Owners of rental property on Kintschi Road in the Edwall area reported the residential unit had been trashed after its most recent tenants had been evicted.

A housekeeper found evidence that someone had been sleeping inside a residence on Waukon Road in the Edwall area without the owner’s knowledge or permission.

While on an unrelated traffic stop on U.S. 2 near Davenport, a deputy advised dispatchers that litter was coming from five vehicles that went past him.

Reardan Police responded to a caller’s report that a 4-wheeler was being operated with a baby aboard in the 100 block of South Laurel Street.

Saturday, April 30: A Harrington man reported that kids drove through a wheat field.

A Davenport man reported his truck had been stolen during the previous night from the 400 block of Tenth Street.

A caller reported two horses were eating wheat from a field adjacent to Miles Creston Road.

Deputies checked out a report of a cougar sighting near the Davenport Sports Complex.

A man was arrested in connection with a malicious mischief incident in the 300 block of SE Trinity in Wilbur.

Two vehicles collided at the intersection of U.S. 2 and Miles Creston Road.

An erratically driven vehicle with “kids hanging off it” was reported at the Fort Spokane campground.

After receiving a complaint about loud music, a responding deputy successfully persuaded individuals in the vicinity of Eighth and Sinclair streets in Davenport to turn it off.

A Wilbur woman asked for police assistance with an unwanted person at a residence in the 600 block of NW Cole.

Responding to the 400 block of SE May Avenue, Wilbur Police investigated a woman’s report that she felt threatened after answering her front door to a man who later raised his fist as if he was going to punch her.

Sunday, May 1: Extensive damage resulted to a vehicle involved in a collision with a deer on U.S. 2 near Davenport.

A deputy cleared SR 231 north of Reardan of a trash can in the roadway.

Pursuing deputies were unable to stop a pickup truck and trailer being operated without a license plate on SR 28 between Harrington and the Grant County line. Traveling at or just above the speed limit, the driver ignored patrol cars’ lights and sirens, and at one point, even waved off one deputy. After an Odessa police vehicle got in front of the suspect vehicle, the sheriff’s office decided to end the pursuit and referred the matter to the Washington State Patrol and Grant County authorities.

April 27: Nicholas D. Henderson, 34, Davenport, arrested by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) for second-degree theft.

April 28: Douglas H. Leavitt, 52, Reardan, arrested by LCSO for third-degree driving while license suspended.

Sean W. Kenning, 25, Kennewick, Wash., arrested by LCSO for third-degree driving while license suspended.

Donna R. Smith, 60, Ford, arrested by LCSO for driving under the influence.

April 30: Richard L. Vandergriff, 36, Wilbur, arrested by LCSO for malicious mischief (domestic violence).

May 4: Curtis J. Bockman, 64, Reardan, arrested by LCSO for fourth-degree assault (domestic violence).

From April 27 to May 2, six inmates from outside Lincoln County were held in the county jail under contract with the Washington State Department of Corrections.

Criminal Sentencing

Corey Lynn Butler, 45, of Airway Heights and/or Spokane, pleaded guilty April 26 to second-degree burglary, first-degree theft and first-degree malicious mischief in connection with about $33,880 worth of damage done to an American Tower building and cell tower on Macabee Road in Sprague between March 1 and May 8 of last year, and the taking of copper conduit, wire and other materials. His sentence includes four months in jail with credit for time served, payment of $800 court costs, $400 attorney fees and undetermined restitution, and a prohibition against having any weapons.

New Criminal Case

Nicholas Dan Henderson, 34, Davenport, is charged with second-degree theft (access device) and third-degree theft in connection with the April 27 taking of a man’s wallet containing cash and identification cards from inside Rickey Corner Mart in Davenport. The discarded wallet was later found in a dumpster behind the Safeway store.

New Civil Case

Ocwen Loan Servicing LLC seeks foreclosure of property at 42030 Fawn Lane N in Deer Meadows in litigation filed against the “Unknown Heirs, Spouse and Legatees of Bob D. Heiden (deceased),” Janet Heiden of Lincoln, and the “Unknown Occupants of Real Property.” The petitioner alleges that payments on the remaining principal of $181,242.73, plus interest, had not been received for October of last year and subsequently.
